Imperial Uji Matcha Batch 003 | 30g

$45.00

Imperial Uji Batch 003 joins our Imperial collection from Uji, the historic heart of Japanese tea and one of the most revered growing regions in the country. Crafted from 100% first-flush, stone milled, hand-picked Samidori tencha, one of our partner producers in Shizuoka processed and refined this matcha completely to our specifications.

Upon your first sip you'll understand why the Uji name carries so much weight. This matcha is the epitome of what people imagine as the perfect matcha: bright verdant green, incredibly fine powder, strong umami and natural sweetness yet buttery smooth on the palate. If you're looking for something to make the perfect Usacha or Koicha with, this is your matcha.

10/10 matcha. Won’t buy anything else.

Let’s start with first impressions, two of them: 1) When I opened the tin I briefly saw the face of God, who was disappointed I still don’t own a proper chashaku. 2) the color… This isn’t just green. Green is what your lawn does. This is the color of a nuclear reactor that went to art school. It did not turn my pee green though surprisingly.

Taste: The tasting notes are accurate: strong umami, natural sweetness, buttery smooth. Super high quality through and through.

Price: $45 for thirty grams sounds like a lot right up until you drink it, at which point the math quietly rearranges itself. I’ve paid more than this for ceremonial-grade powder that tasted like a lawn clipping with ambitions. This is first-flush, hand-picked, stone-milled Samidori, the kind of spec sheet that usually comes with a $90 price tag and a waiting list.

Conclusion: I say this as a man who has been fleeced by three continents’ worth of tea shops, a genuinely unserious price for what’s in the tin. Would buy again. Have bought again. Insanely good matcha!
